Unique digital portal: easier management through a single access point
Parliament supports simplifying and streamlining the most common administrative procedures in the EU.
The plenary session of the European Parliament gave its approval, on September 13 in Strasbourg, to the new single digital portal, a new system with which the EU will facilitate contact between European citizens and public administrations.
Procedures such as the application for a birth certificate or a permit to start a business will now be easier thanks to this one-stop shop, especially in cross-border procedures.
Your Europe
The Tu Europa portal, available in all the official languages of the EU, will function as a single point of access to procedures such as birth certificates, renewal of the DNI, pension claims, business permits, European health card, scholarship applications and recognition of qualifications
"The single digital portal will provide digital, responsive, inclusive, borderless and easy-to-use public services for citizens and businesses at national and European level," said Maltese Social Democratic MEP Marlene Mizzi, responsible for this negotiation in Parliament.
Modernize national systems
Member States should modernize their national systems to ensure that they are fully accessible via the Internet, not only in the language of the country but also in at least one additional language. Online services must be of high quality and accessible to citizens with disabilities.
Changes that will save time and money
The unique digital portal will allow citizens to enter a document into the system only once, without having to resend it with each management.
The new system will save citizens 855,000 hours and 11,000 million euros a year to companies, according to the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Elżbieta Bieńkowska.
Next steps
Once the member states approve the new rules and the regulation enters into force, local, regional and national administrations will have five years to adapt.
