The Parliament voted to finance digital projects on high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and digital skills during the 2021-2027 period.

The aim of the new Digital Europe funding program is to support the digital transformation of European societies and their economies. It aims to provide Europeans with the skills and infrastructure to respond to the digital challenges that arise in their private and working lives.

The program is part of a broader strategy to develop the technological potential of the digital single market, which could mean a contribution of 415,000 million euros a year to the European economy, the creation of four thousand jobs, as well as the increase in the international competitiveness of the EU.

"For many years, Europe's technology sector has lagged behind third countries such as the United States or China, we need a coherent approach across the Union and an ambitious investment to find a solution to the chronic imbalance between the growing demand for new technologies and the suppliers available in Europe, "explains the person in charge of the proposal, the liberal-minded MEP Angelika Mlinar.

Areas of the new program

Europa Digital will provide funding for projects included in five areas: supercomputing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, advanced digital skills and the extension of the use of digital technologies throughout the economy and society.

"We can count on European excellence in the field of research, but our companies, especially small and medium-sized ones, have difficulty accessing new solutions." This program is crucial for designating how to manage the low adoption of available assay technologies. .
